Terrebonne, Executive Director of the SETX Nonprofit Development Center unless otherwise noted. Workshops are designed to benefit Board Members, Executive Directors, Staff and Volunteers.

Sustaining Your Mission in the Wake of a Disaster -- An Overview

If you had a fire today, where would you start tomorrow? Is your nonprofit prepared to sustain its mission should the area be affected by another Rita or Ike? It's easy to become complacent in the absence of calamity. Yet, this is just the time to develop, revise or practice your Continuity of Operations Plan. This Lunch & Learn will be presented by Randi Fertitta, Catholic Charities, with the following being discussed:
- Understand & differentiate the key components of a Continuity of Operations Plan & a Disaster Preparedness/Response Plan
- Analyze your agency's unique capabilities & hazards
- Learn how to develop, implement and maintain your agency's plan; and
- Take home samples, skills & confidence to build or enhance your agency's unique plan!

Are you and your organization ready to face the media? Who will say what? As Non-profits, these last few years have been tough in terms of fundraising, volunteerism and scandal. Sometimes your brand and reputation is all you have left, but when that is threatened by allegations of misconduct how can you circle the wagons and protect your organization from media scrutiny, disgrace and finally, shutting the doors? Are you prepared? Come to find out!
Houston crisis communication expert and former TV journalist Miranda Sevcik shares what she’s learned protecting her clients in some of the most high profile cases in the world. The workshop includes:
· Determine a branding and crisis purpose, message and audience
· Media action plan development
· Press release and microsite (online press room) creation
· Employee communications
· Interview training (mock interviews given to volunteers)
· Techniques for avoiding questions and staying on topic when interviewed
· Press conferences
· Spot news coverage
